The following article begins by giving a brief overview of the importance of the Amazon Rainforest in South America. The Amazon is known as “the lungs of the world” , not only being the home to more than 4,000 animal species but also a vital and crucial forest to the absorption and storing of Carbon Dioxide heavily produced by Fossil Fuels. The article proceeds to introduce 7 Endangered species and the contributing factors to their declining populations, some being due to the effects of deforestation, water pollution and excessive killing. I believe the article does not focus on what specific audience. Instead, it’s with the intention to bring awareness to the general public, especially those who may not know about any of the species that live in the Amazon and also who may be unaware of the way they may be contributing to their endangerment. The article has present factors I know to be true because of my first hand experience and confirmation from other credible websites. Since the focus of the article is on specific animal species. I plan to include some of these species. I think this article was a good start into my research however, I still leave with questions of more detailed ways that these animals contribute to the ecosystem.
The Article was broken down nicely into three parts; An introduction to Rainforests primarily focused on the Amazon, how the Amazon rainforest works, and why it’s so important for the world. I didn’t get a lot of information about endangered species but it did educate me on deforestation which is useful for when I focus on the reasons why species are endangered. The audience for this article is connected more so to large private landowners and multinational companies who are funding forest destruction. I know both individually and as a group we can make changes that can be impactful for the preservation of the Amazon. For that reason, I don’t like to pinpoint one specific audience. But with that being said, this article made sure to specifically list countries that are not helping the situation and touched on limiting banks to make such destructive investments. I’m curious to know of statistical facts comparing deforestation throughout the years.
So far, this next article I will be introducing has been my favorite and most useful for my research paper. The audience is first presented with a well written definition of biodiversity and why biodiversity helps maintain the balance in an ecosystem and for its inhabitants (including us humans) to thrive. Then, the text connects biodiversity with the one found in the Amazon rainforest. Now that the reader has a better understanding of biodiversity in the rainforest, the article finishes with providing causes of the loss of biodiversity. It introduces these issues with the main idea that human activity is the primary reason. The language of the text is easy to read and understand so I think the article is accessible for a lot of people. I’m going to use this text as an introduction for animal and plant species’ contribution to the ecosystem. Like every i’ve read so far, it raises more questions. I’m intrigued to find out more about the effects of mineral operations in the future? I hadn’t thought about Mining operations affecting the Rainforest.
One of the animals most in danger is the Jaguar. I looked for an article that highlighted the Jaguars vital role and came across this article from the Guardian. Jaguars are emphasized to be essential to the rainforest ecosystems. Because they are higher in the food chain, their disappearance would greatly affect other species and could leave an overpopulation which can also be harmful to the environment. The text gives me a solid place to start when I’ll include Jaguars in my research paper. This article was a little harder to process so I think the audience is one in a more professional setting. Information is easier to grasp when the reader can relate or finds the information interesting. I think the audience member can also be anyone that loves animals and pushes for the care of animal preservation.
Trading wildlife is one of the reasons species are endangered in the Amazon Rainforest. While most of the wildlife trading is legal and isn’t always a bad thing, the trading that has been happening in the Amazon has been harmful to a lot of species where many of these animals are being overexploited. Humans are of course solely responsible for this issue. The article quickly describes one of the ways how wildlife is traded and why this destructive activity continues to happen. The primary targets to wildlife trading are Birds, Reptiles and Mammals. I think this article is most influential to individuals and companies that support the use of animal products in unnecessary, materialistic ways. I’m definitely going to use this article to build my case on why it’s important for humans to take significant action to save animals, especially those close to extinction. I would like to know about any organizations that are taking action to prevent wildlife trading.
